...I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.
Deuteronomy 30:19
That was our theme verse for our Day of Life lessons. Since the Day of the Dead is such a huge celebration, we make the most of the opportunity and celebrate life with kids and families in churches and neighborhoods.
Here, at Word of Faith Church, we're teaching the verse (above). Each participant helped us remember a part: Choose [road sign] life [heart] so that you may live [joggers] you and your family [family of four].
And we got the youth involved with the game show skit. Contestants had to decide whether to "Go" or "Not to Go" with certain tempting situations.
We also taught them a choreography to our theme song: "Alive" by Hillsong Young & Free!

That same day, we went to their new church plant in Toluca, State of Mexico. After teaching, we took some time to pray for the kids: declaring blessing and God's purpose for them.
And for the young people...
A week later, we invited passersby from an area in the Federal District (called Popular Sector). A friend of ours invited us to do the lesson in his garage--which he and his boys decorated with balloons and a disco light.
Several neighbors had seen the advertisements and came to check it out. Of course, there were games, songs, prizes and afterwards candy bags, chips, and hot punch.
But before they left, we prayed for the kids and adults alike. By their gratitude, we knew they left touched by the simple choice that He has placed before us: to choose life in His Son.
That was Friday. On Saturday, we went wayyyy out of the city. Chimalhuacan is known as one of the poorest outlying communities.
After following our pastor friend up and up, and wondering where he would stop, we "flyered" the colonia, inviting whoever we could come across.
On the way, we spotted this offering shrine (one of many that invade the city this time of year). In schools, homes, squares and graveyards tradition is to bring foods, alcohol, cigarettes or whatever the deceased enjoyed for their visitation that evening.
Here's the view. SO many to reach!
Our object lesson revolved around this basic decision of what to eat regularly: carrot or cupcake. Sometimes what seems more attractive isn't the best for us--not only in the dietary realm. Everyday we face choices that can foster life or death.
Here you can only see a few, but lots of kids came dressed up (as is custom in Mexico on the 1st of November). Driving down the mountain that night we saw the flocks of beggars.
It's their "trick or treat" but instead they ask for sweets to fill their "little skull." Scores of faces flood the streets painted as skulls, "Catrinas," and "lloronas."
Here are some of the city sites (I did take):
Our home church, Rhema, approved teaching the lesson on Sunday morning. We had a blast celebrating with our church family!
And praise God, over a dozen people made the decision to receive the Lord!
Earlier in the month...
Xaume taught 16-hour "Introduction to Youth Ministry" at Central Rhema Bible Institute Campus!
We journeyed to Valle de Chalco to spur these youngsters on toward perseverance in the faith.
Got ahold of these children's workers for a few hours training in Tepito (downtown Mexico's knock-off market capital).
Teaching a portion of Hearts in Action's "Torch" training program! Working with kids is an essential ministry: a POWERFUL position to impact lives.
We praise God for these moments when we get to share His Word and vision! Thank you for forming a crucial piece in making it possible.
And remember: Choose life :)
