Four Twelfths: April

...the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
1 John 4:4

On March 31, this fantastic group of five (plus one who was interning here) came to serve on a mission trip with us.  It was a packed week but full of testimonies of God´s power.

Our first stop was at this church where they did a service and prayed for the youth.  Many of them were desperately needing that time to connect with God and hear from Him. One young man asked to receive the Holy Spirit!

On Saturday morning we partnered with a church and a children´s shelter to host an outreach in the community. The shelter offers free housing for kids who have terminal illnesses.   Some stay with their parents for long periods of time and others come and go when getting treatment.

After games and face paint, we shared about Jesus taking our place. We extended the invitation for those who wanted to give their lives to Him and later had a time to pray over individuals with specific requests.   What a privilege it is to be able to minister and proclaim His Name in the street!

Sharing testimonies

That evening Daniel, shared his story with the teens from the youth group.  It was a powerful time for them to hear from someone new and to see a group of young people serving in missions.

On Sunday the team split up to help at a church - Melissa, Kristy and Breanna with the kids, Daniel with the youth, and Jeremey with the adults.

As I translated for Jeremey, I knew the Word of God was edifying and challenging the people.  After the service, that was confirmed.  We prayed with a couple dozen people it seems.  Most asked for prayer for physical healing, and some shared emotional wounds for us to lift up.  We were amazed at God´s power manifest that day - almost all of them received healing in that moment!  Glory to God!

In the afternoon we did an outreach there at the church. Pray for continued breakthroug - that the Body of Christ can walk in the victory Jesus won and that they will testify to those around them!

We did recruit the team one morning to help us out at Hearts in Action Mexico (i.e. our home office).   They helped with some visuals for lessons and the guys built door for our storage area!

That evening we went downtown to talk to people in the plazas.  The ice breaker was to ask questions from a spiritual survey, and if the individual was open, we´d then share about Jesus´ plan for them and/or pray for them. It was surprising how many had mixed beliefs and confusion.

When we asked one man what we are here for he started talking his travels and then about meeting people and finally, he realized he wasn´t sure what life´s purpose was and asked us if we could tell him!

On the team´s last day of ministry, we taught a lesson on respect at this elementary school.   The kids were trilled to see Americans and loved the skits they did as they learned that respect is treating others as we want to be treated.

That evening we did an outreach in the same community, and several people received Jesus!

Later that week Xaume shared about responsibility at this youth service.

This month we shared the vision with the host church for the kids´ club, TWIST starting this summer.  They were excited and challenged.  Please pray for the preparations and funding for this project so that many kids who don´t know Jesus can come to the club and get to know Him!

Here they are, starting on the first step of exterior remodelling!

For Kids´ Day (April 30th), we got to do two outreaches - one the week before, and one the day of.  Here we´re working with a church called Restoration Christian Church.

During the lesson we did a drama portraying David´s anointing as king  - and how God sees the heart.  The little boy we chose to represent David had lost his dad not too long ago.  His mom said that was the first time she´d seen him smile in a long time and that she knew she needed to bring him back to this place.  Amen! Many of the kids and parents asked Jesus to be their Lord this day.

Our second Kids´ Day outreach with the church Garden of Gethsemane was a blessing as well.  Out in the street at the house where the kids´club will be, about 100 kids came to hear how important they are to God and to have an opportunity to ask Him into their lives.

We got to announce the club to the kids and their parents.  Please pray that they will let their kids come and that this community can be impacted by the power of God´s Word.

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

His Imagination

What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind -- God prepared this for those who love Him.  - 1 Corinthians 2:9 It’s been a month of lots of emotions. From baptisms, to celebrating three years of Twist Kids’ Club Ecatepec,  to delegating leadership to some of our team, to kids finishing the school year, to travel (the kids and I to Ohio and Xau to ministry trips)…  The constant through it all is that He is our Source. He just keeps reminding me: “Just be with Me.”  We weren’t sure that anyone was going to be baptized at our semi-annual date, but were so excited to see three young men say "yes" to the invitation. More than the baptism itself, it's the fact that they've chosen to follow Christ. Pictured here is Manuel. He’s been reading the Bible for himself and is really getting it. Please pray for their constant protection and growth. Praise God for Brayan and Hector who have specifically sown into these young lives.  Yotzan, C...

Every Step

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. - Isaiah 9:2 Praise God for His light that breaks through our darkness!  This month I wanted to highlight a few testimonies from the year, starting with two key encounters since we've been back this fall.  On two unrelated occasions, we were able to sit down with beloved church members to work through and minister deliverance in areas of bondage in their lives. Praise God for His Spirit who moves us to confession and repentance and works to restore us by the power of His Word.  Pray for more of these times - that we may all be delivered from evil - just as Jesus prayed.     Training seminar for children's workers at this church: Eliaquim. It was an edifying and powerful time as they were touched by Father's heart for young ones. Jocelyn (above) & Karla: two more testimonies.  Karla started volunteering in Twist in 2023, but after star...
