Seven Twelfths: July

Therefore, a sabbath rest remains for God´s people. For the person who has entered His rest has rested from his own works, just as God did from His.
Hebrews 4:9-10

It´s been a month of TWIST!
And it´s been a. lot. of. work.
But rewarding all the same.

(Xaume and our team- Jesus and Gustavo have been hard at work on other projects as well - preparing for vacation Bible schools with other churches, etc. but this month I´ll focus on our work with Twist.)

Registration and IDs

Twist Kids´ Club is a project we hope and pray can grow and eventually reach thousands of kids throughout the country.   It´s a place for kids to come every Saturday to have fun, learn truth from God´s Word and be ministered to - all with the goal of reaching and discipling kids in the community.

"EverybodyTime" - Teaching with all ages together (4-13+)

"MyTime" - Reflection time where kids write down the central verse and respond to a question related to the lesson

Mobilizing the local church and organizing three hours of club every Saturday takes time and effort.  But we praise God for His faithfulness and supernatural provision.  More than 150 kids have come through the doors this month - most of whom do not have access to a Biblical witness at home.

 Singing and worship time

This month our theme was identity.  The four lessons focused on four truths: God made me wonderfully, He has a great plan for my life, He wants me to know Him, and I can become a child of God.

"CrewTime" - smaller group breakout time by age

This little girl, Janet, is deaf.  She has been so brave to come several times to club.  She can read and write.   Pray that the power of God´s Word reach her spirit and that we can find someone to translate for her.

This is the teen group! We honestly hadn't planned on having teens, but they came! So we now have a breakout group for them and hope to eventually incorporate some of them into the team.  Most of them are encountering God´s Word at a personal level for the first time.

The young man on the far right, Oscar, has taken particular interest in Twist and often comes early to help out.  His dad´s not around. He´s been involved with drugs.  He was deeply touched a couple weeks ago when a visiting church came to teach on God´s father-ship.  Pray for him to grow into a strong man after God´s heart.

Pray for dedicated leaders who can relate and minister to this specific group!

Welcome activities -  something fun or creative for kids to do during the first half hour

The last day Saturday of the month we have Fiesta Twist - a day of fun with a time for cashing in their "hearts" that they´ve collected by attending, memorizing verses, doing homework, participating, etc.

Sharing the Word and ministering to parents.

Pray with us that these individuals will be hungry for the gospel and that as their children shine God´s light, His power will bring transformation in each home.

Ixtapaluca (the county where this club is located) is a low-income area.  We want to bless the community in physical ways as well.  That´s why each Saturday kids get a snack, and after doing a clothing drive, we were able to give.

We believe Twist has great potential, and therefore there has been great opposition.  Please pray...

  • That we can rest from our own efforts, do what HE asks, and rest in His goodness.
  • For teachers and volunteers from the local church to protect their time with God in order to minister in love to the kids and act in love towards each other
  • For a giving and generous spirit, more partners for Twist, and creative ways to gain sustainability

Time

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise—  making the most of the time, because the days are evil.    -Ephesians 5:15-16 God gave me a word for each month this year and February's word was TIME.  The goal: listening AND OBEYING His direction for how to spend time. He knows best - so yielding to His Word has been a challenge since I often think I know what needs to be done and when. But it's so refreshing when we do obey and get to experience His perfect wisdom!   Pray for these ones to continue to grow in their knowledge and walk with God! This past month... Crece Church Plant News:  Two women (mother and daughter) were baptized - expressing their desire to follow Christ completely.  Despite all her nerves and wanting to back out, Imara taught her first time on a Sunday morning! She was baptized last February. (Brayan also preached this month - we continue to encourage ones to let themselves be stretched and u...

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

Pressed

“We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬ It’s been a tough month. Good things but also some heavy pushback, spiritually. I’ve been prayerfully aware of the weight of this area we’ve targeted to minister in: Ecatepec. The name literally means “hill of the god of the air.” We know there’s quite a stronghold of the enemy in the region. And though it often feels like we’re working a pickax, we’re thankful  that His praise is the constant. And for the promise that we WILL NOT BE CRUSHED.  Highlights:  Worship night at Karina’s  home  (just two blocks from Crece church)  this Saturday night!  It was a great  time for the young people to come together, have some good hang out time and then mov...
