August 18

We have received grace and apostleship through Him to bring about the obedience of faith among all the nations, on behalf of His name.
Romans 1:5

Praise God for His grace and calling!  What a privilege for all of us - that He would consider us to form part of His plan "among all nations."
Pray that we may grow in wisdom to complete His assignment for us.

Jesus came to help build one of the elements for the "Sports" workshop for the kids´ congress.

The beginning of August was FULL.   Xaume especially was working almost around the clock in preparation for the kids´ congress at Conquering Frontiers and the youth leaders´ conferences with Pastor Howard.   It was really crunch time to get all the materials and volunteers coordinated.

Our friends Lalo and Ale came to help with some of the preparation for the kids´ congress.

Xaume had on his heart to invite Pastor Howard Andruejol, from Guatemala, to do two generational leadership conferences - one here in the city and one in Oaxaca.  Since Hearts in Action generally focuses on kids' ministry, we wanted to offer a training opportunity for those who work with youth.  One of Howard´s main points is to focus more on people than on programs - a great and challenging reminder

Here in Mexico City, over 80 youth leaders and children´s leaders attended - including leaders from Twist Kids´ Club.

Then the two flew to Oaxaca for a quick trip where Howard preached at the host church in the morning and then in the evening they held the leadership conference.  Thanks to team member Jesus Cruz's pre-conference visit to Oaxaca the week before to promote the event, leaders from different churches came to be encouraged by the Word.

Great turn out in Oaxaca, praise God.

The kids´ congress!! After much hard work and some trial and error the first day, it was, overall, a fantastic time.  The kids left each day excited about the workshops, the drama, and, essentially the time together as kids worshipping their heavenly Father.

Of the 800+ kids, praise God we were able to take over 50 from Twist!  It was the first time many of them have ever been to anything like this.  They were thrilled : )

Of course, the main goal besides the kids having fun, was to minister to them and share the power of God's Word.  The second day, Xaume got to share.  By God's grace, he not only held their attention with different object lessons, but was able to speak a strong word of truth and encouragement.

Quick testimony - one of the things Xau said while ministering was that certainly some of the kids have been dealing with discouragement, and particularly some have parents who fight often or have separated.  But God is there with each of them, and they can be firm by relying on Jesus.  Xau didn't know it, but our friend Ale had invited her nephew who was going through that exact situation.  His parents had separated some time ago and he had been feeling abandoned by his Dad.  We're sure he's not the only one.  Please pray that the Word the kids heard can continue to take root in their hearts and that they can continue growing in their relationship with God every week!

Other happenings this month include an outreach in a village out in the State of Mexico where a church is just starting out.  The two girls raising their hands in the picture below prayed for Jesus to be their Lord for the first time.  In talking to them afterward, they told me they read the Bible every night.  Amen!

On the 25th, Xaume and Jesus Cruz taught a training seminar at this church called Saint Paul, where the kid's ministry is looking to become better equipped.

Kids' Club Twist in Ixtapaluca here below hosting the end-of-the-month rally.  Both clubs keep pressing forward despite some challenges between the volunteer team members, lacking initiative, and financial stretching.  Xau and I are working with them and, above all, praying for wisdom and restoration in the Spirit.

At the end of the month, thankfully, we were able to rest a bit more and ro really enjoy time together as a family.   We're so loving Malakai :) of course, and loving lots on Liam as he adjusts to his new brother.  We send our love to each of you as we praise God for you!    Let us know how you are doing - we always love to hear back.

In Him,

The Buenos

Time

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise—  making the most of the time, because the days are evil.    -Ephesians 5:15-16 God gave me a word for each month this year and February's word was TIME.  The goal: listening AND OBEYING His direction for how to spend time. He knows best - so yielding to His Word has been a challenge since I often think I know what needs to be done and when. But it's so refreshing when we do obey and get to experience His perfect wisdom!   Pray for these ones to continue to grow in their knowledge and walk with God! This past month... Crece Church Plant News:  Two women (mother and daughter) were baptized - expressing their desire to follow Christ completely.  Despite all her nerves and wanting to back out, Imara taught her first time on a Sunday morning! She was baptized last February. (Brayan also preached this month - we continue to encourage ones to let themselves be stretched and u...

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

Pressed

“We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬ It’s been a tough month. Good things but also some heavy pushback, spiritually. I’ve been prayerfully aware of the weight of this area we’ve targeted to minister in: Ecatepec. The name literally means “hill of the god of the air.” We know there’s quite a stronghold of the enemy in the region. And though it often feels like we’re working a pickax, we’re thankful  that His praise is the constant. And for the promise that we WILL NOT BE CRUSHED.  Highlights:  Worship night at Karina’s  home  (just two blocks from Crece church)  this Saturday night!  It was a great  time for the young people to come together, have some good hang out time and then mov...
