Therefore, the Jews began persecuting Jesus because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus responded to them, “My Father is still working, and I am working also.”
- John 5:16-17
What a time we are living. It can seem like an eternity, but it is a season. I´ve been trying to see the "new´s" - the new things - the different things - the things that are happening in our lives now that have never happened before. I hope by reading them, you can see some "new´s" in your life and can glorify Him, because He continues to move even when our lives seems paused.
1. Easter meal
Thankfully we´ve been able to still have some fellowship in this lock-down. Ciro, his wife Ángeles and his two youngest sons Áaron (2 yrs.) and Ángel (10 yrs.) come each Wednesday to Bible study. I recently delegated the kids´ lesson time to our friend Pris (Priscila), who does a great job.
For the first time on Easter we got together simply to share a meal. They brought mole and tortillas! I made a cake and did an egg hunt & dying for the kids. We were especially excited that for the first time, their eldest son, Joel (20 yrs.) came to our home! (Also, we just recently finally invested in a dining room table which was useful.)
2. Joel
Speaking of Joel - we had invited him many times to come and learn computer programs with Xaume. He´s very into drawing and interested in studying cinema, but he´d never taken up the offer. Until now. "Just so happens" the store where he worked closed and he´s in-between jobs.
With all his free-time I guess he decided he´d try it out. So, Xaume has taken him under his wing these past two weeks Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to teach him some basics on video editing. Joel has helped edit many of the quick Twist Kids´ Club videos that leaders have been sending by message to the kids (parents). He also helped Xau shoot some footage for online kids´ lessons projects.
Praying God will work in his heart to hunger after the Truth.
3. Neighbors
The building we live in is divided into three apartments: the downstairs, ours, in the middle, and the upstairs. The downstairs neighbors have a little girl about Liam´s age. They often play together, which is great.
A couple weeks ago for the first time, we invited her to join the kids´ lesson during Wednesday Bible study. She came! She was very attentive and wanted to participate right away in the opening prayer, but she just had one question, "What is prayer?"
Please pray with us for her and her parents. I´ve shared some with the mom who comes from a Catholic background, but this time in close proximity is bringing new opportunities for conversations about beliefs and child-rearing.
4. Focus-shift
We´ve shifted from the usual ministry "activities" to more writing and recording. Kids´ lessons for print, video/online kids´ lessons, future books, personal writing, etc. It´s not exactly the pace / productivity we´d imagined for this time, but we´re chiseling away at it.
The kids are full-time - especially now since Liam´s not going to school. We´re working on cherishing these times and extending special grace and self-control in these moments when we can easily get fed-up.
Thanks for reading our "new´s" - would love to hear some of yours. Thank you for showing such faithfulness and for being with us in the Spirit. Sending you all virtual hugs!
