October 2020

The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn't have the Son does not have life.  -1 John 5:12

Growing girl!

After many months, October brought several "in-person" events.  AsThe Day of the Dead continues to gain force and popularity, Xau started off the month working hard on writing, recording video sections, and preparing materials for the "Choose Life" lesson.  It's a special lesson we develop each year (around Halloween/Day of the Dead) to emphasize and celebrate the life we find in Christ.  We want kids to enjoy the season and have fun - celebrating the wonder of life with Jesus!

As Twist clubs start back up, we printed special face masks and t-shirts - for both kids and teachers.  Grace, Love & Communion church (below) invited Xaume to preach at their semi-annual youth gathering.

Then the Choose Life lessons began! This year I didn't try to tag along with the three kids, but Yazna (Xau's sister) stepped in to teach along with Xau.  The two of them did the lesson in several churches, Xau and Pris directed it at Liam's school, and each of the Twist Kids' Clubs coordinated with their leaders to do it as an outreach lesson.

Twist in Valle de Chalco is doing seven kids' cell group meetings. Here are some shots from their Choose Life lessons:

Twist Ixtapaluca kicked off their re-opening with the Choose Life lesson - having groups by age group enter at a time.  They said the kids were so happy and ready to start coming again! Pray for more of that :)

Twist Nextlalpan had a great turn out, too.  Leader Sharon is expecting her second baby any day now, so let's keep her in prayer.

Pris took her two nieces all the way to Oaxaca to do the lesson with the Twist club there.  Being a small mountain town, they have been meeting intermittently over the pandemic. Please pray for the leader Angelica to have more teachers and volunteers step up.

Nearly 300 kids heard God's Word through the lesson this year. Thank you so much for your faithful prayers, love and support. We are amazed at God's power and grace manifest through you. May He fortify your spirits now and always.

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

His Imagination

What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind -- God prepared this for those who love Him.  - 1 Corinthians 2:9 It’s been a month of lots of emotions. From baptisms, to celebrating three years of Twist Kids’ Club Ecatepec,  to delegating leadership to some of our team, to kids finishing the school year, to travel (the kids and I to Ohio and Xau to ministry trips)…  The constant through it all is that He is our Source. He just keeps reminding me: “Just be with Me.”  We weren’t sure that anyone was going to be baptized at our semi-annual date, but were so excited to see three young men say "yes" to the invitation. More than the baptism itself, it's the fact that they've chosen to follow Christ. Pictured here is Manuel. He’s been reading the Bible for himself and is really getting it. Please pray for their constant protection and growth. Praise God for Brayan and Hector who have specifically sown into these young lives.  Yotzan, C...

Every Step

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. - Isaiah 9:2 Praise God for His light that breaks through our darkness!  This month I wanted to highlight a few testimonies from the year, starting with two key encounters since we've been back this fall.  On two unrelated occasions, we were able to sit down with beloved church members to work through and minister deliverance in areas of bondage in their lives. Praise God for His Spirit who moves us to confession and repentance and works to restore us by the power of His Word.  Pray for more of these times - that we may all be delivered from evil - just as Jesus prayed.     Training seminar for children's workers at this church: Eliaquim. It was an edifying and powerful time as they were touched by Father's heart for young ones. Jocelyn (above) & Karla: two more testimonies.  Karla started volunteering in Twist in 2023, but after star...
