October Opposition

It has not been an easy month. But even with all the challenges, we see God’s faithfulness and power every week.

Choose life lesson at Twist Kids’ Club - celebrating life in Jesus in these dark days

Publicizing the opening of the church plant has been met with opposition: Dedicated team member Brayan was handing out flyers for Crece {pronounced: Kreh-seh} the name of the church- meaning “grow”) on a different side of town and two men told him he shouldn’t be having that out there because there they follow “Saint death” (a growing idol-based cult).  He replied that there was no problem if they didn’t want the flyer that was fine. They said he should go. So he turned and headed back.

The next morning when we arrived to set up for Twist the brand new banner he’d hung on the wall had been ripped off and was gone.

Since the banner was taken, Brayan painted the wall instead

Further pushback the week after as when we arrived there was a horrible stench.  Brayan again to the rescue, found a rotting  cat on the roof as well as many bags of feces.

Witchcraft and the like are common in Mexico - and we’ve heard many similar stories. So, knowing that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but strongholds in the Heavenlies, we take our stance, knowing that greater is he who is in us, than he who is in the world and covering ourselves in the Name and blood of Jesus.

We’d ask that you join in interceding for covering - and especially for unity between Xau and I as the enemy’s tactic always include division and conflict.

But then - the very next day, Sunday, after nearly two months of meeting faithfully with four to six individuals, to our joy, two new families visited Crece! We praise God for His victory and continue to pray that He add daily those who are to be saved.

In the last month, Twist (Ecatepec) has about doubled its size and is now averaging 30 kids. We’re praying for more volunteers and wisdom in how to best disciple this growing group :)

Twist Chalco (one of the cell groups)

All but one of the other Twist clubs continue to persevere. Pray for stamina and encouragement for the leaders and for more workers.

Other news from the month:

Xau’s been teaching a class on children’s ministry at a Bible institute all month. They have two groups - one in the morning and one in the evening! So 32 hours of teaching… 😱

He was honored to preach on reconciliation between children and parents at a church we’ve known for the past several years.

We also worked on writing and producing material for this year’s “Choose life” lesson which the other clubs got to do yesterday in lieu of Day of the Dead/Halloween.

The kiddos are growing of course…a challenge and a delight.

We have a testimony that God provided for us to visit Ohio in December! So excited. Liam is literally counting the days 😂

Thanks for taking the time to read and pray. It means the world to us :) May He bless and prosper each of you in His Grace and power!

Thank you each of you who have taken the step to give financially. It makes our life and work possible!

(Specifics we’re asking God for include: cement flooring for the other half of the space, roofing, a new keyboard, support for Brayan and new tables and chairs…)

Time

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise—  making the most of the time, because the days are evil.    -Ephesians 5:15-16 God gave me a word for each month this year and February's word was TIME.  The goal: listening AND OBEYING His direction for how to spend time. He knows best - so yielding to His Word has been a challenge since I often think I know what needs to be done and when. But it's so refreshing when we do obey and get to experience His perfect wisdom!   Pray for these ones to continue to grow in their knowledge and walk with God! This past month... Crece Church Plant News:  Two women (mother and daughter) were baptized - expressing their desire to follow Christ completely.  Despite all her nerves and wanting to back out, Imara taught her first time on a Sunday morning! She was baptized last February. (Brayan also preached this month - we continue to encourage ones to let themselves be stretched and u...

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

Pressed

“We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬ It’s been a tough month. Good things but also some heavy pushback, spiritually. I’ve been prayerfully aware of the weight of this area we’ve targeted to minister in: Ecatepec. The name literally means “hill of the god of the air.” We know there’s quite a stronghold of the enemy in the region. And though it often feels like we’re working a pickax, we’re thankful  that His praise is the constant. And for the promise that we WILL NOT BE CRUSHED.  Highlights:  Worship night at Karina’s  home  (just two blocks from Crece church)  this Saturday night!  It was a great  time for the young people to come together, have some good hang out time and then mov...
