Tough kids, tougher love

Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.  - Ephesians 6:11

Father's Day shot at Crece
What can I say about this month? We continue the learning curve of church planting: people come and go, people criticize and gossip, kids fight, parents complain, people face health crises... but in all the ups and downs, we do see people take steps of obedience, and steps to say Yes to Jesus.

Pray that we can stand firm in all things - with the full assurance that it's HIM working through us, not our own efforts.

Some "rough and tumble" kind of kids have been coming to Twist Kids' Club these last couple months. We've been doing our best to include them, but this month, their behavior came to a hilt. So, we're making some adjustments - primarily dividing the space: every other Saturday for 11-14 year-olds and every other for 4-10 year-olds.
They just need so much love, and a godly father figure.  Suffering verbal abuse, constantly roaming the streets, and accustomed to pretty much zero discipline, we're praying for these youngsters to encounter the love and truth of Jesus. We cannot reject them even if everyone else has.
On another front, Xau was invited to participate as a panelist on this TV show; debating about infidelity. He was the only Christian representative, and while they didn't let him talk too much, he held his ground, affirming our tendency towards infidelity due to our fallen nature - and our need for God's strength to be faithful.

Other news from the month:
Continuing our study on the 10 commandments: working to repent and restore broken areas in our lives.

Xau taught a 10-hour online class for Rhema Guatemala: Children's Ministry. They were challenged and encouraged indeed!

Debbie taught as a speaker in our second training seminar at this church: infant and preschool ministry

The boys each had "open classes" at school where we parents got to see a bit of what goes on :)

(Liam writing vocab on the board - he's reading, writing and "arithmeticking" so well)

We had some fun, too. One adventure here after creeking one day at a nearby national park (not comparable to American national parks 😂)

Thanks so much for reading and being a part of our lives and work. We continually praise God for you!

AUGUST 3rd: we will be sharing at Heritage Christian Church in the evening. Please join us! We'd love to see you there and be able to say hi in-person.

His Imagination

What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind -- God prepared this for those who love Him.  - 1 Corinthians 2:9 It’s been a month of lots of emotions. From baptisms, to celebrating three years of Twist Kids’ Club Ecatepec,  to delegating leadership to some of our team, to kids finishing the school year, to travel (the kids and I to Ohio and Xau to ministry trips)…  The constant through it all is that He is our Source. He just keeps reminding me: “Just be with Me.”  We weren’t sure that anyone was going to be baptized at our semi-annual date, but were so excited to see three young men say "yes" to the invitation. More than the baptism itself, it's the fact that they've chosen to follow Christ. Pictured here is Manuel. He’s been reading the Bible for himself and is really getting it. Please pray for their constant protection and growth. Praise God for Brayan and Hector who have specifically sown into these young lives.  Yotzan, C...

Every Step

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. - Isaiah 9:2 Praise God for His light that breaks through our darkness!  This month I wanted to highlight a few testimonies from the year, starting with two key encounters since we've been back this fall.  On two unrelated occasions, we were able to sit down with beloved church members to work through and minister deliverance in areas of bondage in their lives. Praise God for His Spirit who moves us to confession and repentance and works to restore us by the power of His Word.  Pray for more of these times - that we may all be delivered from evil - just as Jesus prayed.     Training seminar for children's workers at this church: Eliaquim. It was an edifying and powerful time as they were touched by Father's heart for young ones. Jocelyn (above) & Karla: two more testimonies.  Karla started volunteering in Twist in 2023, but after star...

Treasure

Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us. - 2 Corinthians 4:7 Did anyone see that recent headline about a diver who stumbled upon nearly 50,000 bronze coins? The team also noted fragments of broken pottery.  I thought of this verse - imagining that "treasure" being held in those old earthen vessels. That's the beauty here.  Despite our fragility, God chooses to deposit in us the eternal riches of His Holy Spirit!  Praises: Renovations underway! This room had horrible moisture running through it due to inadequate roofing. Now, with proper paneling, the leakage will be eliminated. After remodeling adjustments for the adjacent room, Hector (full-time intern) will have a bedroom and this taller room will serve as our first church office! It was quite a project, but we're thankful to have a space for him to move into in the next week or two.  The beginning of September we celebrated Crece church's three ye...
