August

Lord my God, You have done many things - Your wonderful works and Your plans for us; none can compare with You.
Psalm 40:5

Isla de Cortes Beach,  Sinaloa

To kick August off, we shared at a kids' conference where the theme was 1 Timothy 4:12.  Our slot focused on being an example in speech and conduct. After presenting a sketch (depicting how easy it is to follow someone else's example: bad or good) we took a moment to ask God's forgiveness for when we haven't been a good example, and asked for His help to do so!

Conquistando Fronteras, the name of the church where the conference was, is a growing congregation in a tough area of the city.

It wasn't easy to calm 500 kids down, but with patience and the help of the Holy Spirit, we had a window of powerful reflection time.

In Ecatepec - a densely populated section of the State of Mexico - we held two training sessions for children's leaders.  Folks came from several different churches and were very grateful in their evaluations for the vision and tools they received.

We've also been working on establishing our office space here at home.  It's still in process but has been such a blessing!

Liam is now an official part of the blog...he brings us so much hope everyday.

To bring August to a close, we spent a week in Culiacan, Sinaloa - a new state for us in the north of Mexico.  Unfortunately, Culiacan is known for its' violence.  God, however, has a much better plan for this city: that it would be known for His glory!

Meet Adriana and Caty.  We met them on the other side of the country (south) in a teeny tiny mountain town called Abejones in Oaxaca. They were serving as missionaries for a time there but have now returned to their home town, Culiacan.   Before we met Adriana, she had had on her heart to organize a special missions event for children, but didn't know quite how...

When we did a couple of children's outreach events in Oaxaca with her, she mentioned how she would love for us to someday work with her in Culiacan.  That was last April. This April, she contacted us to plan for an all-day children's missions conference.  This month, she flew us up to do it!

Volunteers from various churches were involved - forming stations for eight countries to be represented.  The kids traveled country to country to hear what life is like, what many people believe, and what missionaries who live there experience.

We shared too - Hearts in Action's lesson: Go into all the world.  Going into all the world isn't just going to see and observe other cultures, but going with His message of Good News for all peoples!

We also took a time for the kids to pray over the teachers.
Adriana lined up several opportunities for us to preach at different churches during the week and encourage our family of faith in Culiacan. It's not an easy place for the gospel. Many parents prohibit their kids from going to an evangelical church.

Here we are at one of the churches where we shared - with Pastor Francisco and his family.  His brother, Fernando and his family are missionaries in Jordan and work with refugees in a refugee camp.

Jesus, raise up many more from this city and this nation to go forth in Your Name - some to other countries and others next door.  Yours is the highest name!

Time

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise—  making the most of the time, because the days are evil.    -Ephesians 5:15-16 God gave me a word for each month this year and February's word was TIME.  The goal: listening AND OBEYING His direction for how to spend time. He knows best - so yielding to His Word has been a challenge since I often think I know what needs to be done and when. But it's so refreshing when we do obey and get to experience His perfect wisdom!   Pray for these ones to continue to grow in their knowledge and walk with God! This past month... Crece Church Plant News:  Two women (mother and daughter) were baptized - expressing their desire to follow Christ completely.  Despite all her nerves and wanting to back out, Imara taught her first time on a Sunday morning! She was baptized last February. (Brayan also preached this month - we continue to encourage ones to let themselves be stretched and u...

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

Pressed

“We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬ It’s been a tough month. Good things but also some heavy pushback, spiritually. I’ve been prayerfully aware of the weight of this area we’ve targeted to minister in: Ecatepec. The name literally means “hill of the god of the air.” We know there’s quite a stronghold of the enemy in the region. And though it often feels like we’re working a pickax, we’re thankful  that His praise is the constant. And for the promise that we WILL NOT BE CRUSHED.  Highlights:  Worship night at Karina’s  home  (just two blocks from Crece church)  this Saturday night!  It was a great  time for the young people to come together, have some good hang out time and then mov...
