Summer Time

Isaiah 66:2
I look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at My word.

July is the month for kids' camps and VBS - at least here in Mexico since summer break is just one month long.  We've had the privilege of ministering at a few...

This church had an all day event for kids - with stations set up for each group to rotate through.  The children's leaders came to the "Passing the Torch" training we held and were so excited to implement the new ideas and strategies.

We were invited to close the day out.  We wanted to be intentional about ministering to the kids and having them pray as well.  It's often a challenge to get to the place where they can calm down and connect with the Spirit, but we believe that they'll learn by practicing!

Xaume was invited to preach at the church here below, as the pastor was out of town.  Notice how the kids are the ones up front!  They are so often an example for us!  After the message, we prayed over them and had some time for them to pray with their families.

Little Liam update :)  This last month at church we "officially" dedicated him to Jesus.

The pastor of the church below invited Xau to preach.  She believes strongly in God's power to sow into the lives of children through summer Bible school.  She relates it as part of her testimony because she remembers going as a child even though her family was not a believing family.  As an adolescent she stopped going to VBS, but at age 18 she decided to go to church to hear more about Jesus.  There she encountered the same women who had invited her to VBS so many years ago.  Now she is a pastor.

Then! We had an exciting week up in a state called San Luis Potosi.  Paulina, a friend of ours is the children's leader of a church there, and she invited us up to minister during their Family Week.

Two nights in a row we got to teach the kids, worship with them, and pray with them.  As teachers prayed over each one, we gave them these crowns as a reminder for how God's chosen them to be an example of Jesus.

We went with a group of about 200 on a one-night camping outing, and were able to share a message about being a prepared family: with the Word of God!

On Sunday, Xaume had the privilege of preaching at all four of the church sites. His message was based on Matthew 5:14-16. We're called to be the light of the world, but our shininess should start in our homes.  Jesus desires congruence - that we show the light of Christ in each sphere of our lives.

At the end of each message, I got to sing and play in worship!

And our last opportunity in July was at the close of the kids' camp below.  This was a new church we'd never worked with before that a friend of ours invited us to.  We love being able to be outside so that any kids from the neighborhood can come!

Pray with us for this little boy (below). At the end of this lesson, Xaume calls a child to the front in order to bless him - as an example of what Jesus did with children.  Well this little boy was known for being cantankerous, and as Xaume spoke God's truth over him, he started to say, "no," "you're lying."  That's definitely a reflection of what he's been brought up to believe about himself.  So we pray God continues to touch his heart and affirm his calling.

Working with children is not easy.  But it is so necessary. We  tell people, "Not everyone is called to work with children, but everyone should include them in his or her vision."  It's something God has given us to do, and we just can't get away from it!

Time

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise—  making the most of the time, because the days are evil.    -Ephesians 5:15-16 God gave me a word for each month this year and February's word was TIME.  The goal: listening AND OBEYING His direction for how to spend time. He knows best - so yielding to His Word has been a challenge since I often think I know what needs to be done and when. But it's so refreshing when we do obey and get to experience His perfect wisdom!   Pray for these ones to continue to grow in their knowledge and walk with God! This past month... Crece Church Plant News:  Two women (mother and daughter) were baptized - expressing their desire to follow Christ completely.  Despite all her nerves and wanting to back out, Imara taught her first time on a Sunday morning! She was baptized last February. (Brayan also preached this month - we continue to encourage ones to let themselves be stretched and u...

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

Pressed

“We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed. We always carry the death of Jesus in our body, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬ It’s been a tough month. Good things but also some heavy pushback, spiritually. I’ve been prayerfully aware of the weight of this area we’ve targeted to minister in: Ecatepec. The name literally means “hill of the god of the air.” We know there’s quite a stronghold of the enemy in the region. And though it often feels like we’re working a pickax, we’re thankful  that His praise is the constant. And for the promise that we WILL NOT BE CRUSHED.  Highlights:  Worship night at Karina’s  home  (just two blocks from Crece church)  this Saturday night!  It was a great  time for the young people to come together, have some good hang out time and then mov...
