Nine Twelfths: Septiembre

So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.
Colossians 3:1-2

Yes, there was an earthquake this month.   And it was devastating for many.  Our prayer is that hearts be stirred towards eternal confidence - that Mexico may turn to God in sincerity and truth.

Xaume and Jesus traveled down to the state of Morelos, where the epicenter was, to help clear rubble.  In the midst of all those helping and donating supplies, we want to remember the importance of ministering in the Spirit.  Now is an especially sensitive time and an opportunity to speak life.

Twist Kids' Club update: we've been working a bit on the new facility...still needs a lot of work, but it's getting there.   We met three times this month and the church hosted a special Independence Day celebration with food stands and games in the street.

Our lessons this month focused on the following:
God is love; God is faithful; Jesus came so that we can be friends with God.

La fiesta! 15 de septiembre:
corn-on-the-cob / white "field corn" dressed with mayonnaise, shredded cheese and chill powder
(below) pambazos / salsa-brushed bread sandwich filled with potatoes and chorizo
not pictured: pozole / most typical Independence Day meal: hominy and pork stew

Four training sessions for children's workers this month at our church, Conquering Frontiers were well-received.  Several teachers wrote in their responses that they commit to dedicating more time in preparing their classes and to spending more time with God.

And... a very special guest this month... MOM!  I, Anna, had a bout with some health issues and Mom came down to the rescue :)  It really was a special time.  Plus, all her cooking ministry and help with watching Liam was a big blessing.  Thank you.

The two abuelas. Liam is growing, of course.  His favorite words now are "avon"  - for avion (airplane) and "mo" for motorcycle.

We so appreciate all your prayers and all of you who have been asking about us after the earthquake.  It means a lot.  Please keep praying for us to have insight into being most effective in the ministry to which He's called us.

Persevere!

Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer .   -Romans 12:12 This word hit me hard at the women's retreat we attended at the beginning of the month. After my "I-don't-want-to-suffer" breakdown, God sweetly reminded me of His heart: Rejoice in the love of my salvation! It's not the suffering we're called to, but the perseverance through it to produce in us the joy and privilege of getting to walk WITH Him... And along the way we get to accompany others - praying  that they encounter Him!  Moments like this - even when just a few take look at God's Word - are glimpses of hope. Pray with us for these ones to hunger for more, seeking after Him with all their hearts! Many are facing family difficulties, pursuing false gods (namely, "la muerte"/ saint death), struggling with addictions, violence, apathy, etc. This month we had a couple good times with some of the Twist and Crece church leaders.  Special praise for Karla as she h...

His Imagination

What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind -- God prepared this for those who love Him.  - 1 Corinthians 2:9 It’s been a month of lots of emotions. From baptisms, to celebrating three years of Twist Kids’ Club Ecatepec,  to delegating leadership to some of our team, to kids finishing the school year, to travel (the kids and I to Ohio and Xau to ministry trips)…  The constant through it all is that He is our Source. He just keeps reminding me: “Just be with Me.”  We weren’t sure that anyone was going to be baptized at our semi-annual date, but were so excited to see three young men say "yes" to the invitation. More than the baptism itself, it's the fact that they've chosen to follow Christ. Pictured here is Manuel. He’s been reading the Bible for himself and is really getting it. Please pray for their constant protection and growth. Praise God for Brayan and Hector who have specifically sown into these young lives.  Yotzan, C...

Every Step

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. - Isaiah 9:2 Praise God for His light that breaks through our darkness!  This month I wanted to highlight a few testimonies from the year, starting with two key encounters since we've been back this fall.  On two unrelated occasions, we were able to sit down with beloved church members to work through and minister deliverance in areas of bondage in their lives. Praise God for His Spirit who moves us to confession and repentance and works to restore us by the power of His Word.  Pray for more of these times - that we may all be delivered from evil - just as Jesus prayed.     Training seminar for children's workers at this church: Eliaquim. It was an edifying and powerful time as they were touched by Father's heart for young ones. Jocelyn (above) & Karla: two more testimonies.  Karla started volunteering in Twist in 2023, but after star...
